The U.S. Army-Baylor Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program offers a unique educational opportunity, blending advanced occupational therapy training with service in the U.S. Army. This collaborative program between the U.S. Army and Baylor University is designed for individuals seeking to specialize in occupational therapy within a military healthcare environment. Applications are processed exclusively through the Occupational Therapy Centralized Application Service (OTCAS), with the application cycle typically opening in late July and closing in late September each year. Regardless of current service status, all candidates, including active duty, reserve, or national guard members, must apply via OTCAS.

Once accepted, participants are directly commissioned into the Army Medical Specialist Corps and serve on active duty throughout the program. This unique aspect allows students to receive a salary while having their tuition covered, eliminating the need for upfront educational costs. However, students are responsible for other expenses like books, supplies, and licensure fees. The program requires a substantial commitment, with a 90-month service obligation that includes 30 months of training and 60 months of active-duty service following graduation. The program itself is structured to provide comprehensive occupational therapy training. It starts with 18 months of academic coursework at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence in San Antonio, Texas. A 12-month clinical fieldwork and capstone experience at various Military Treatment Facilities across the United States follows this. The fieldwork phase is integral to the program, offering hands-on experience and requiring students to relocate, with the Army funding the travel.

Admission to the program is competitive, with requirements including a minimum GRE score, completion of prerequisite coursework, and a set number of observation hours in occupational therapy settings. The program also demands high academic standards, with students required to maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA to complete their studies.
