The U.S. Army offers a unique and distinguished Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in Anesthesia Nursing in collaboration with Baylor University. This program is designed to prepare nurses to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) within a military setting. This esteemed program is structured to provide advanced academic training and a substantial commitment to serving in the U.S. Army, fostering exceptional professional growth and service opportunities.

Students enrolled in this program are commissioned as Regular Army officers and receive full military pay and benefits for the duration of the program. The Army covers all tuition expenses, reflecting its significant investment in the education and training of its personnel. Admission to this program is highly competitive, requiring candidates to meet Baylor University’s rigorous academic standards and be selected for Active Duty through a dual board process involving the U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) and Baylor University.

Applicants must have at least one year of critical care nursing experience, as defined by the Council on Accreditation (COA), and achieve competitive scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Baylor University’s admissions window opens annually from February 1 to August 1, and prospective students can apply through the university’s dedicated portal.

Upon completion of the DNP program, graduates are obligated to a 36-month Active Duty service commitment while attending the program, followed by an additional 60-month Active Duty Service Obligation (ADSO), totaling an eight-year commitment. This obligation reflects the Army’s substantial investment in each student and the critical role these graduates play in enhancing the readiness and capability of the U.S. Army’s medical services.

The USAGPAN and DNP in Anesthesia Nursing programs represent a unique fusion of advanced education and dedicated military service. They equip nurses with specialized skills to provide anesthesia care in diverse environments and forge a path for a distinguished career in military healthcare. This program is a testament to the Army’s commitment to developing highly skilled healthcare professionals within its ranks.
